"Hello World"
saturday, february 17, 2007 @ 7PM-11PM

lol, can you read this? ok, most likely. this is our very first opening reception and our very grand opening in our little tiny space. writing, and in specific, expressing coherent thought really drains my energy so i will leave it at this for now.

i hate to read bios, they seem so contrived so i am forcing my will upon you and you do not get the opportunity to read the bios of the artists presenting works at this opening. instead, you get to read about what their single most favorite piece of sushi is. this also saves me the work of having to design another page to hold the bios. and if you care to get a sense of who these artists are, your work has been simplified to the task of determining if their sushi selection is up to par.

"REvolution"
saturday, june 16, 2007 @ 8-11PM

luis miras, our friendly neighborhood reverse engineer, has got some new tricks to show you. we asked him to come in and let us in on some 0-day since we loved his flowcharts from the last free beer show.

spencer mack seems to like blowing up cars and trains, or, at least, scale models of them, which to us, seems like reverse engineering in a gross sense, which is excellent.

"Independencia"

a silent auction and fundraiser

Montuso was organized for the primary purpose of providing assistance and support for educational needs to distressed and underpriviledged children and women in developing countries.

Independencia is Montuso's first fundraising event and was inspired by our first trip to Mexico where we provided school supplies to primary school children.

Michael Rios is a legendary bay-area artist whose art and murals made the mission district famous. His works include several well known album covers including Carlos Santana's Supernatural. Michael's work is highly regarded for its power, vision and color.

Carlos Vargas was paralyzed from the neck down in November 2000 from a gunshot wound to the neck. Two months later his son was born and he began painting. It was these two events that motivated him to continue living.

"When Electronics Become Art"
saturday, october 27, 2007 7-11PM

"Goofy, high-strung, some may say neurotic," answers Joe Grand when asked to describe himself. He grew up in Boston and was a member of the legendary hacker collective L0pht Heavy Industries, testifying before the United States Senate under his nom de hack, Kingpin, and being praised as a "modern day Paul Revere" by the Senators for his research and warnings of computer security weaknesses.

Involved in electronics since the age of 7, Joe works on secret projects for his company, Grand Idea Studio, and is a well-known electrical engineer and hardware hacker. He now lives in San Francisco, is the author of two books, contributor to four others, on the technical advisory board of MAKE Magazine, and is a co-host of an upcoming engineering build show for Discovery Channel.

"Sumerians believed that the universe consisted of a flat disk enclosed by a tin dome."

Even ancient Sumerians had a thing for snow globes. I can't explain what it is that makes them so delightful to me. It may just be that they're miniature, but I love them beyond all reason.

A new snow globe enchants me for weeks; I've had friends return from trips, haggard and world weary, clutching the globe they've brought me with an air of fierce defiance. Yes, I did find the one snow globe that exists in South Africa. Each globe in my collection has been a gift given to me by myself or someone I know. I will not purchase them on ebay or trade with other collectors. This preserves what I consider the purity of my collection.

They are perishable little objects of kitsch and beauty, perfect for shaking around and looking pretty, charming because they are simple yet strange. Enjoy.

"Los Disappeared"
Josue Rojas
Saturday, March 8th, 2008

"Los Disappeared: Deporting the American Dream." Still and moving pictures by Josue Rojas.

The San Francisco Mission District's own Josué Rojas presents "Los Disappeared" a multimedia art exhibition that marries aesthetics and ethics, journalism and fine arts

This cutting edge collection of paintings and video are inspired by the artist's work/ travels in Central America, and from his interest in capturing the plight of young Salvadorans whose lives were drastically changed by the 12-year-long civil war in El Salvador. As part of the "Salviaspora" these young people have made it back to the homeland through a series of events, displaced by injustice, irony and fragmentation due to civil and urban wars.
