..::// about \\::.........................................................
: :
: 20 goto 10 is a reference to the basic programming language. its :
:.... found in a simple program that repeats forever, typically :
: printing only one message indefinitely. beyond that i have no :
: : : coherent goal. i am lost, trying to familiarize myself with a :
::: landscape that i know little about. 20 goto 10 is not really an :
: art gallery. maybe its a science fair or a research project, but :
im sure that it has a door, white walls, a front window and :
people. :
:
i grew up in san francisco, and then around california. i never :
had much to do with art as i knew it. im from the internet, or :
really the hacking scene as it were. art to me was found in a :
clever way to randomize integers, circumventing a captcha or :
a 0-day buffer overflow. the closest to visual art that i would :
typically see was a nice ansi scroller, a website defacement, or :
a 4k demo. all of which count, but have never as of yet been :
seen in a gallery. :
:
after a while i started noticing a huge change in the hacking :
culture. everyone started getting jobs. all the 16 year olds :
seemed to have grown up and stopped sticking it to the man and :
soon became the man, or at least corporate schmuchs working for :
him. at least we didnt have a work dress code but even that :
started to fade. i realized that i was just sitting behind a :
desk, clicking away at nothing. i was a corporate nobody, and :
to some extent i still am. but im trying to change that. :
:
i used to enjoy presenting at all the computer security and :
hacking conferences, but i recently became really fustrated with :
the fact that people would either present content that now only :
applied to the current security industry, or even if they had :
new and interesting ideas, then the audience, now made up of :
security professionals, didnt really care because it didnt apply :
to their job. all real creativity had been stomped out. :
:
so why "hello world" ? because "hello world" is the name of a :
computer program by brian kernighan, one of the inventors of the :
c programming language. its used as the very first introductory :
example in teaching c, and many other programming languages. ive :
named my first opening "hello world" because it is my first :
attempt at truely starting in a new direction and i look at it :
as learning a new language. now im looking to a new community :
to try and share the culture, ideas and history that i once had :
enjoyed with the hacking community but now do not. :
